Life is too short. And I am too young to have a bucket list. Or am I?...
Eating healthier is more simple than you think. Think. Prepare. Eat through the day, and feel great.
What is in your salad bowl?
A bowl of lettuce, tomato, cucumber and a big glob of blue cheese dressing.
That was my version of a salad before I discovered how to mix healthy food together.
Although this still may be right for some – just a simple bowl of rabbit food. That was good enough for me until I discovered improved ways of eating while I was away – the healthy, practical and vital way.
Now, it is hard going back to just eating 3 leaves, 3 cherry tomatoes and bacon bits on a cool day.
Literally, once I told someone that I eat a giant salad in a bowl – they said, “rabbit food”. And that person said that they would be hungry for the rest of the day…
Oh, how they were wrong.
Still a work in progress. But, how I am in love with the process of discovering new and healthy foods that can go along way. All day in fact.
For the last 3 years, I have added food to a large bowl and have gotten to eat at least 4 meals – every few hours.
Put in the fridge, pull it out and eat a portion size, feel fulfilled, feel great. Done. Repeat again later.
So what was in my bowl? You name it if it is obtainable and good for me. I put it in my bowl. (an actual picture my salad)
The list of foods had to offer health benefits of some kind to be eligible to enter into my giant bowl for the day:
- Pumpkin Seeds
- Olive oil
- Balsamic Vinegar
- Beet Root
Just to name a few and I try a variety of different blends. Sometimes I put 7 different foods or maybe on an ambitious day, maybe 13.
My first objective was trying to keep my energy going and feel good all day for a labour job that lasted close to 11 hours.
Ok, so then taste could have been compromised?
I am still learning to be creative without jeopardizing taste completely. So, herbs, oils, vinegar and fruits can create a blend of taste that keeps you motivated for being creative for what you can add.
Noticing more energy and less hunger
I have noticed the more I eat these foods that are packed with energizing nutrients the less I crave empty carbs and sugar induced propaganda. Translation – Protein bars and energy drinks do not get me through the day.
Call me crazy. But, retraining your body and mind will actually “retrain” it to desire what is good for you.
I am not writing to break down each food benefit. But, I encourage those who are curious to understand how vegetables, herbs, oils, fruits and nuts can promote healing, detoxing and an overall improved outlook – to start with a little research and planning.
Those who are inspired for incorporating a new habit for healthier life planning.
My encouragement to you today is to start with a bowl. It doesn’t have to be huge. But, big enough to mix your healthy choices into a bowl for the whole day.
Multiple reasons you should consider putting together a potent salad for your day:
- You will save time having to cook
- You will be able to keep track of what you are eating
- You could change your mind about eating habits
- You could start feeling so much better
- Your energy could increase dramatically
- You won’t have room to eat junk food
- You won’t be hungry
- You won’t overeat
- You won’t get fat
- You may end up changing the way you think about, salad.
- You could be making eating healthy easier when you put your mind to work.
What you put in your bowl is up to you.
It doesn’t even have to be a bowl. But, the challenge is that you find new methods to form new habits of eating healthy.
